BCD and Misdiagnosis

Bietti Crystalline Dystrophy (BCD) is an underdiagnosed, rare, blinding genetic eye disease that could affect more than 100,000 people globally. Misdiagnosis has been reported to be a serious issue related to BCD diagnosis. Many BCD cases could have been missed or misdiagnosed.

BCD patients experience harsh symptoms of vision loss, which cannot be corrected by glasses. BCD patients have various vision problems include progressive night blindness, distorted vision, sensitive to strong light, reduced visual acuity, blind spots in visual fields, reduced contrast sensitivity, impaired color vision, and eventually legal blindness. Currently, there is no treatment available for BCD but there are some potential treatments in development, which with our combined efforts, we can make them the reality.
